Chicago Crew is one of several sets created for Button Men Online. The main focus of the set was Ornery Dice. It was designed by Jeffboyardy and the names came from several friends' pets.
(Radicals and Crew) came from "What If" ideas. What if we had a die that could do blank? Like, "What if we had a die that "rerolled itself"?"
Dana and I kick around a ton of ideas. We're strange like that. In Jr. High we had a "Bored Board" with things to do if we both had no idea what to do. We would roll the dice, see what number came up and then do that thing.
So - What If? -The idea came up for a rerolling die. What if a die didn't like NOT being used and changed itself. It could not be counted on.
I happened to have a pet ferret at the time named Spooky, who was sweet but cranky. He'd kiss you then maybe bite you. The word to describe him was Ornery. So the word and the What If concept of the die came together.
The Chicago Crew was set up to then play with that - and one had to be Spooky. Other Pet Names were used to setup the others then and the recipes roughly approximated them, then Dana coded them up.
Audrey was a big tabby cat with green eyes, Cheathem was an orange Cat, Flint grey, Lizzie sable. Monty Brown is in the name there. He was a Siamese mix and as fast as lightning. Octavia was a black cat, and Spooky an albino ferret.
It's so funny looking at the recipes and the rationales for each of them. Audrey was a little kitten at the time. Had I only known how large she was going to get... Would have put the mighty in there somewhere.
