Fuzzface is the first of two characters from the “Yoyodyne” expansion published by John ”Fuzzface” McMahon. The second character John Kovalic, was released in late 2000. Two promotional buttons for the Pikathulhu Role-playing Game came soon after, both improved versions of the previous release. The Yoyodyne expansion introduced “Chance Dice", which work a little like random Focus Dice. John Kovalic was known for a short period of time as "Character R".[1]
Fuzzface's old website tells of some of the creation of the sets:
The first Yoyodyne expansion was intended to feature artwork from a game that I am quite fond of. The first button was due to be released at TCEP ("Tad and Craig's Excellent Party") in 1999 but the artwork never became (legally) available to me. In a rush, I shot a photograph of myself and tweaked it with some software. The result was the "FuzzFace" button. [Ed. note: The "energy weapon" is actually a squirt gun.] The "John Kovalic" button was intended as an "add-on parody button" for the 2000 Presidential Election Button Men at Gencon. There were two other intended targets of the parody who have not been subjected to button-hood yet.
Expansion #2 could also be called "The Pokethulhu Expansion."[2][3] Pokethulhu is a nifty role-playing game involving Cute Elder God Horrors, Intelligent Children and a boring "real world" where parents just don't get it.
With regards to the rare, Bob the Tomato, “Bob” was intended as an unplayable joke. I put it together on a whim during a Gencon (I think) and made a small handful of copies. The photo is of Bob the Tomato from Veggietales that I was carrying around said Gencon.
And a final note... While I have invested some money in this, and the artists have invested their time, we don't profit from this as a gaming product. We distributed it for free as a method of supporting the Button Men game.
